Selimi criticises Kurti government: Too little done for former KLA leaders at The Hague
An international conference dedicated to the trial of former KLA leaders at The Hague has opened, bringing together experts and prominent figures from various fields.
Petrit Selimi, attending the conference, told RTV21 that both the Kurti I and Kurti II governments failed to do as much as they should have for the former KLA leaders facing trial in The Hague.
"The fact that the Court and the Prosecution have, in a sense, engaged in a rewriting of history is something that must be brought to an end once the proceedings of the Hague Court conclude. What I truly regret is that the previous Kurti I and Kurti II governments were so little engaged in challenging what the Court has produced — that the Kosovo Assembly's Committee on Legislation never convened a closed session to summon the court's president to appear before parliament, before the relevant committee. This court was established by the Kosovo Assembly, and I therefore believe that in recent years we failed to do what needed to be done to prevent the historical narrative — the historical account — from being shaped by bureaucratic figures inside the Specialist Chambers," he said.
Selimi went on to say that it is almost too late for Kosovo's institutions to engage meaningfully in the process.
"Unfortunately, we are late. This government has almost entirely cut off funding in the past — the regulations were different — and we know that the Croatian government gave somewhere close to 50 million dollars solely for its general, Gotovina, who was acquitted. Unfortunately, that solidarity and support for the founders of the KLA and the founders of the Republic of Kosovo was not found in our government. But nothing is too late as long as we are still awaiting the verdict, and it is important that after the verdict as well, whatever government is formed should work together to establish, once and for all, the historical narrative and the historical truth of the Republic of Kosovo," he said./21Media
